Winter

I've been snowed in since last Wednesday, and I've learned something about myself. I could be a hermit. Easy. The full-fledged Walden pond variety. I've walked through suspended snowflakes and deep drifts, realizing I could never return to work and never miss it. No false pretenses for caring about anything I don't care about.

I'm happy with nature, with paper, with paint, with my animals. I've  learned that you can trust Daphne out of doors all day, but she can't be alone with the cats, no telling what her terror of them might cause. Piper could be inside with the cats all day, but let her outside and she's off to the coyote strewn hills like a shot.

The goats have full woolly coats, and the rabbits are huddled under the lights keeping their water bottles thawed.

As for me...flannels, fire, wine, wonder. And no desire for it to end.
